As costs and timelines of top games increase, the industry became extremely risk-averse, artistically stagnant by trying to appeal to "everyone", and morally questionable with  slot-machine-like mechanics to extract more money out of 1% of "whales" willing to spend while enshitifying video games for the other 99%.
